Hot Chili Oil

The solids in this oil is where it’s at. Such good flavor.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 12 cloves of garlic, stems cut off
  • 1/3 cup shallots, sliced
  • 2 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tbsp hot (Thai or something similar) chilis, minced
  • 3 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp fish sauce
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 tbsp gochugaru powder
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp sugar

Instructions

  1. Add oil, garlic & shallots to a saucepan, and heat until boiling. Lower heat and simmer 20 minutes.
  2. Turn off the heat and add ginger and minced chilis.
  3. Add all to a blender and blend until smooth.
  4. Add the rest of the ingredients (sesame seeds, oil, soy sauce, fish sauce, gochugaru, paprika & sugar). Mix well.
  5. Store in a sealed jar in the refrigerator for 3-6 months.

Notes

The “solids” of this oil are where it’s at but you can double the amount of oil if wanted. 

Add to Asian dishes, ramen, eggs… it’s just SO good.
